Course Objectives

In order to improve business processes we need to understand its dynamic behaviour, in much the same way a medical doctor needs to understand the way hormones operate, and not just the disposition of bones and muscles, if he wants to heal his/her patients.

The process dynamic behaviour has to do with:

  • Queue build up mechanisms in different process steps
  • The sources of variability
  • Over-reaction
  • Lack of control due to long delays between action and its effect

One very effective way to learn about the dynamic behaviour of business processes is by experimenting with simulators and going through structured exercises that demonstrate the different effects first in isolation and then concurrently.

Following the Socratic approach to education, participants experience these effects for themselves and draw their own conclusions instead of just being told by their facilitator.
