Lean Six Sigma
Green Belt Course

Companies are struggling to streamline their organisations in order to focus on those activities which add value to their customers. The lean methodology approach to streamlining is based on the elimination of waste. The scope of waste is not limited to defects, errors, scrap and reworks but it also includes waiting times, long lead-times, excess inventory, capacity under-utilisation, i.e. anything which is not absolutely necessary to satisfy the customer. Once waiting times have been identified as waste it is not always easy to remove them. Here the six sigma methodology can help in the identification and removal of their root cause. The six sigma approach focuses on the reduction of variability, which is often the root cause of waste. Variability has rightly been described as a virus because it passes unnoticed through most of our management metrics while infecting critical processes. This infection leads to late deliveries, errors, and customer dissatisfaction as a result. This course makes extensive use of lean and six sigma tools to improve both production and business processes. Participants can experience for themselves through multiple examples, group work and PC based simulation. Tools are applied by participants to their own specific processes starting from the first day. The course follows the curriculum defined by
the ASQ (American Society for Quality). Microsoft Excel with special purpose forms is used as a tool for statistical calculations. It is also used for real-time process simulation exercises. |
